Here at Helen Plum, we can provide storytime and library instruction (ex: reference materials and on-line computer catalog instruction.) In addition, if you call ahead, staff can pull materials on a requested subject so that they are waiting for you in the Young People's Department. To arrange for a visit or any of the other home schooling services, call our Young People's Department and ask for our home schooling coordinator.
A Beka Book: provides home school lesson plans,
and home school charts and games to add real interest to teaching from
a Christian perspective. Alphabet Soup: lists educational resources for
home-schooling parents with thematic and holiday units, arts and crafts,
alphabet activities and literature connections. Alpha-Phonics: offers the basics for home school
instruction from beginning instruction through approximately the 7th
grade. The Back Pack: assists in the development of your
child's complete home school program with new and used text books. Chalk Dust Company: provides an effective distance-learning
environment using a combination of videotape instruction, textbook examples,
solutions guide, and personal help when needed via the telephone or
the Internet. Christian Home Educators Coalition: preserves homeschooling
liberties in the state of Illinois by monitoring legislation in the
Illinois General Assembly which would be detrimental to homeschooling. Connecticut Homeschool Network: offers an
online based homeschool community that is dedicated to sharing information,
knowledge, resources and support for homeschool families. Excellence in Writing: presents a method of teaching
writing skills for home schooling parents. Family Unschoolers Network: provides support for
unschooling, homeschooling, and self-directed learning. You will find
newsletter articles, reviews, resources, web sites, books and lots of
other information to help you. Home School Legal Defense Association.: provides
access to legislative and legal issues of interest to home schooling
parents. Both federal and state information is available. Homeschool Zone: offers free newsletters, services
and ways to connect with homeschoolers around the world. Illinois Christian Home Educators: serves to network
different support groups from all over Illinois for the purpose of sharing
information and encouraging one another. Math-U-See: combines systematic review with hands-on
manipulatives to teach math-Kindergarten through High School using the
same manipulatives. Nathhan (National Challenged Homeschoolers Associated
Network): equips Christian families to raise and homeschool special
needs children. National Home Education Network: supports those
interested in homeschooling with accurate information and up-to-date
networking possibilities. Power-Glide: promotes foreign language education
using innovative methods. Saxon Publishers, Inc.: uses a structured approach
(incremental development) to teach math and reading. Sycamore Academy: provides an alternative educational
program enabling parents to teach their children at home-developed in
1981 in order to help others home school. Writing Strands: provides reading, writing and
speech materials for home schoolers with children aged 3 through 18.
