BOOK AND VIDEO BAG
SERVICES
FOR LOMBARD SCHOOLS

  • Teachers or other designated school personnel may call or fax the Young People's Services Department at the Helen M. Plum Memorial Library to request materials on a specific subject.

  • Materials for use in the classroom are checked out on a school services card. To obtain an annual school services card, an application must be filled out and signed by the principal of the school. This application includes a list of the teachers and school personnel that are eligible to use the card.

  • In order to put together and process a quality book bag, a minimum of three business days notice is essential.

  • District 44 bags will be available on Wednesdays for pickup by the district van.

  • District 45 school personnel can pick up their bags on Thursdays.

  • Private Schools (including preschools and childcare providers) can pick up their bags on Fridays.

  • When making your request, please let the Young People's staff know if you would like non-book materials such as CD-ROMs, puzzles, compact discs, etc.

  • Book and video bags should be picked up and returned at the Circulation Desk.

  • Materials in a book bag are checked out for three weeks.

  • Video bags are checked out for one week.

  • Book bags and video bags may be renewed with notification.

  • Any bag not claimed within two business days of the pick up date will be reshelved and must be requested again.

  • The school is responsible for lost or damaged materials.

  • School personnel may not use the school services card for their own personal use and cannot expect Library staff to create on-the-spot book or video bags.

CLASS VISITS AT THE LIBRARY OR IN THE CLASSROOM

The Young People's Services staff is available for class visits. Examples of class visits include:

  • A general introduction to the library

  • A specific assignment requiring specialized research

  • Book Talks/Storytimes

Please call four weeks in advance to schedule a 30 minute class visit. This will help us to insure proper staffing and to avoid conflicts with any of our other scheduled programs and services.

ASSIGNMENT
ALERTS

  • Materials on a specific topic can be placed on reserve for your students to use in the library.

  • Advance notice will provide us time to assess our resources and put aside appropriate materials for your students.

  • Please phone, fax, mail, or drop off assignment information and we will gather materials for the Library's "Homework Shelf."

  • Your "Assignment Alert" will also appear on our Library website under Young People's Services-Parent/Teacher.

Call Young People's Services at (630) 627-0316 if you have any questions or need further information.
